Euro 2008 tickets will be hard to find as the long awaited event comes near. The 2008 UEFA European Football Championship, also called Euro 2008, will take place in Austria and Switzerland, from 7 to 29 June, 2008. It is the second in a series of three successful joint bids in the history of the competition. Other related events are the UEFA Euro 2000 which was hosted by Belgium and the Netherland and the upcoming 2012 competion in Poland and the Ukraine.
A total of 16 teams will participate in the tournament. Austria and Switzerland are automatically qualified as the official host teams. The other 14 teams have been decided through qualifying matches which started in August 2006. Austria and Poland will be making their first appearance in the tournament. The winner of Euro 2008 will represent the UEFA at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.
How the Bid Process Works:
Austria and Switzerland had jointly bid to host the games and which resulted in a major competition from Greece/Turkey, Scotland/Irleland, Russia, Hungary, Croatia/Bosnia-Herzegovnia along with a four way Nordic bid from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland. Austria had already bid with another country before, which was Hungary for Euro 2004. They had eventually lost to Portugal during that bid for hosting the tournmament. Before the final vote the countries of Austria/Switzerland, Greece/Turkey and Hungary were recommended as hosts. Unfortunately, Greece and Turkey were eliminated which left Hungary and Austria/Switzerland battling for the win. Ultimately Austria/Switzerland were the winners in the bid process for the Euro 2008.

Venues for EURO 2008
Switzerland will play all of its group-stage matches at Basel, and Austria will play all of its group-stage matches at Vienna.
In 2004, the Zürich venue presented some difficulties for the tournament organisers. The Hardtum stadium had been marked to be renovated and used as the city's venue, but unforeseen legal issues delayed the plan to a point that would not have allowed the ground to be used in 2008. This presented a problem, as the agreement between UEFA and the organisers said that four venues would be used in each country. The problem was resolved when the organisers proposed renovating Letzigrund instead; UEFA approved the revised plan in January 2005. The newly renovated Letzigrund stadium hosted its inaugural football match on 23 September 2007.

How to Qualify for UEFA Football Championship
The contest for the qualifying round took place in Montreux, Switzerland on 27 January 2006.
The qualifying process began a month after the 2006 World Cup. Austria and Switzerland automatically qualified for the tournament finals as host nations.
For the Euro 2008, the rules for qualifying were changed in comparison to earlier tournaments. The rules stated that the winners and runners-up from 7 groups automatically qualified for the Championship, with the hosts filling the other two slots in the 16-team tournament. The change means there were no playoffs between teams finishing in second place in the groups - they qualified directly for the finals. Sadly, teams that finished in third place didn't have any additional chances to qualify. Six of the qualifying groups contained seven teams, and the other, Group A, contained eight.

As practiced in the Euro 92 games and Euro 96 games, the games in each group will be held at just two stadiums, with the seeded team remaining in the same city for all three matches. Following the same format as the 2000 and 2004 finals, the finalists were separated into four seeding pots, based on average points per game in the qualifying phases of the 2006 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2008, with each group having one team from each pot. The countries of Switzerland and Austria, as co-hosts, and the country of Greece, as the defending champions, were seeded first automatically.[4][5] The Netherlands were seeded based on their UEFA statistics in the Euro 2008 finalists ranking.
